Why WhatsApp Needs E.164 Numbers
WhatsApp's Business API and virtually every messaging platform expect phone numbers in E.164 format: a +, the country calling code, then the national number, with no spaces, dashes, brackets or leading zeros - for example +6581234567. Import a list with local formatting (0812 345 678), inconsistent country codes, or duplicates, and you get failed sends, wasted template costs, and a messier quality signal. Cleaning the list first is the cheapest reliability win there is.
What This Formatter Does
- Strips formatting - spaces, dashes, dots, brackets and stray text are removed, leaving a clean number.
- Fixes country codes - it removes leading zeros (trunk prefixes) and adds your chosen default country code to any number that is missing one, while leaving numbers that already start with
+or00intact. - Detects existing codes - numbers that already include the country code (without a
+) are recognised so they are not double-prefixed. - Removes duplicates - the same number written two different ways collapses to one clean entry.
- Flags invalid entries - anything too short or too long to be a real number is marked so you can fix the source.
