WhatsApp Coexistence Checker
Keep chatting from your phone and add automation, broadcasts and a team inbox on the same number. Answer 5 quick questions to see if your WhatsApp Business number qualifies for coexistence with the API.
What WhatsApp Coexistence Actually Means
Coexistence is Meta's way of letting a business run the WhatsApp Business app and the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) on the same phone number, at the same time. Your staff keep answering chats from the app on their phone - nothing changes for them - while a connected platform adds the things the app alone cannot do: automated replies, chatbots, scheduled broadcasts, and a shared team inbox where several agents handle conversations together.
Before coexistence, going from the Business app to the API meant a full migration: the number left the app and lived only on the API. Many small businesses hesitated because they liked chatting from their phone. Coexistence removes that trade-off - you keep the app and gain automation. It is exactly the onboarding path we use at Whautomate when you choose "Connect a WhatsApp Business App."
Who Qualifies for Coexistence
- You use the WhatsApp Business app on the number - not personal WhatsApp. Personal users install the free Business app and register first.
- The number is established, not brand new. Meta requires it to have been actively used on the WhatsApp Business app for at least 7 days - and recommends 1 to 2 months - before Coexistence. A fresh number is not eligible yet; if you have no app history to preserve, use Embedded Signup instead.
- The app is on a recent version - WhatsApp Business app v2.24.17 or newer on a supported phone. If updates have lapsed, update the app first.
- The number is not already on the API. A number registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform (with any provider) cannot be re-added through coexistence.
- You have a Meta Business account (free to create) to authorise the connection.
- Available in every country. Meta has completed the global rollout of Coexistence, so there are no country restrictions and your location is not a barrier - the connect flow does the final check for your specific number.

What You Keep, and What You Gain
You keep your number, your existing chats on the phone, and the familiar app your team already uses. You gain automation and no-code workflows, broadcast campaigns to opted-in customers, a chatbot that answers instantly and hands off to a human, a shared team inbox, and analytics - all through the official API. Recent conversations become visible to your connected tools from the point you connect; older history is not bulk-imported, which also keeps the switch clean and private.
Not Eligible Yet? Here's the Path
If you are on personal WhatsApp, switch to the free WhatsApp Business app and register your number. If your number is brand new (under 7 days on the app), either keep using it on the Business app for a week or two and come back, or - if you have no chats to preserve - go straight to the Cloud API with Embedded Signup. If your number is already on the API, you are past coexistence - you can simply connect that number to Whautomate directly. If the app is out of date, update it. Once the basics line up, connecting takes minutes. Curious what compliant messaging will cost? Try the WhatsApp API pricing calculator, and plan your scale with the messaging limit calculator.
